The Commision meets in Town Hall on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 7:30 PM in Room 105-C (Planning/Zoning/Conservation Office) to conduct public hearings. Complete filings must be submitted to the Conservation Commission office in Room 105C at least 14 days prior to an expected hearing date. Filing applications under the State Act (M.G.L. c.131, s.40) and the Town of Norfolk Wetland Protection Bylaw and Regulations can be obtained from the Norfolk Conservation Commission office (room 105C).
General office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Agent holds office hours on Mondayand Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The office is closed on Fridays. The office phone number is 508-541-8455. The fax number is 508-541-3377.
Function
The Conservation Commission is the local regulatory body which has jurisdiction over natural resource areas protected under the State of Massachusetts regulations, Chapter 131 of the Massachusetts General laws and the local wetlands regulations of the Town of Norfolk. The mission is to protect Norfolk's resource areas in accordance with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, town by-laws, and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection's program policies. In addition, the Commission is active in conservation land management.
Things to Know
To preserve existing open space, the Commission gratefully accepts donations of land. The Commission also pursues acquisition for the protection of wetlands, groundwater resources, wildlife resources, and the preservation of the quality of life for the present and future citizens of Norfolk.
